Removing Barriers to STEM

WRDC’s charitable arm provides hands-on learning and career exploration opportunities for girls in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

STEMforGIRLS programs have provided opportunities to thousands of girls in urban, rural, and remote communities, giving them valuable knowledge and experiences that shape their education pathways and future careers.

The objectives of WRDC’s ERC are to:

  • Increase the understanding of STEM as a foundation for all careers,
  • Improve gender balance in STEM post-secondary programs and careers
  • Increase creativity and innovation in STEM fields by creating a diverse, inclusive, and gender-balanced workforce.

STEMforGIRLS programs engage girls and gender-diverse youth in hands-on learning experiences, provide opportunities to interact with role models, and instill the knowledge and confidence required to make informed career choices. Piloted in 2021, our STEMforGIRLS Club is an online STEM community enabling us to engage with more girls and gender-diverse youth throughout NL.

Those who identify as women and gender diverse are critically underrepresented in STEM-related fields. STEMforGIRLS is designed to empower girls and gender-diverse youth with the confidence-building experiences, career information, and community connections needed for successful futures in STEM. If they can see it, they can be it.
