STEM Role Model Safety Relay

The STEM Role Model Safety Relay is a two hour workshop in which girls in grades four to six are introduced to women working in STEM fields who highlight their careers and the importance of math and science in school. Participants also complete a fun filled safety relay activity.

Girls in grades 4 to 6 are introduced to women working in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) related fields who highlight their careers and the importance of math and science in school. In a gym setting, role models talk to young girls about their careers, answer questions, engage the girls in interactive dialogue and conduct a fun filled safety relay activity. The program, conducted as a 2.5 hour workshop includes:

• Introduction to WRDC-ERC and STEM related information
• Industry Role Model panel
• Discussion with questions and answers period
• Friendly competition Safety Relay activity

Through the program girls learn about careers such as Environmental Science, Instrumentation Technology, Engineering and Engineering Technology, Welding and other trades, Building Construction and Safety. Workshops are conducted in an all-girls’ environment to cultivate interests and participation in math and science and to strengthen girls’ ability to visualize their future as STEM professionals.

This program is helping to demystify the roles and career options that woman have.
