2018 Trades Scholarships for Women


This year, six (6) non-renewable $1500 scholarships will be available for female students enrolling in one of the following programs to commence in September 2018:


  • Powerline Technician
  • Construction/Industrial Electrician
  • Industrial Mechanic (Millwright)
  • Secondary:

  • Heavy Duty Equipment Technician
  • Welder
  • Carpenter
  • Automotive Service Technician
  • Heavy Equipment Operator
  • Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technician
  • If you are not accepted for one of the programs listed above, you will not be eligible for a scholarship.


    Recipients are selected on the basis of acceptance into a program of study at a recognized post-secondary institution of choice. Preference may be given to students accepted into one of the programs indicated as primary.

    • Applicants must be entering their first year in one of the programs listed above.
    • Applicants must be permanent residents of Newfoundland and Labrador.
    • If applicants use examples to demonstrate skills relating to safety and health, teamwork, leadership or dignity and respect, it would be considered an asset
    • Preference may be given to students who demonstrate financial need.
    • The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of an unbiased application and selection process.

    Application Requirements

    Submit a WRDC-ERC Trades Scholarships application form along with the following:

    • Resume
    • Written essay (telling us why you deserve a scholarship to a maximum of 500 words)
      OR video (same theme, to a maximum of five minutes)
    • Reference letter (minimum of one, maximum of two)

    The selection committee, made up of WRDC-ERC Employees, will review the applications and award the scholarships on September 26, 2018.

    Deadline for submission of applications is extended to July 31, 2018
