WRDC & NL Hydro Press for Progress with the 2018 Trades Scholarships for Women
St. John’s, NL (March 8, 2018) – Today, on International Women’s Day, Women in Resource Development Corporation (WRDC), in partnership with Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro, announce the 2018 Trades Scholarships for Women. Six scholarships of $1,500 will be awarded to female students pursuing a skilled trades program in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The announcement was made during a launch event held at College of the North Atlantic, Prince Philip Drive campus. The event, which celebrated women’s achievements and success in the energy sector, focused on the International Women’s Day 2018 campaign theme…#PressforProgress.
“WRDC is very pleased to partner with NL Hydro on the 2018 Trades Scholarships for Women,” stated Cheri Butt, Chief Executive Officer of WRDC. “While we have seen significant improvements over the past 20 years, women continue to be underrepresented in trades and technology occupations. These scholarships provide essential support for women pursuing careers in skilled trades in our province.”
The scholarships will be awarded on September 26, 2018 to women enrolling in one of the following eligible programs.
“At Hydro we’re committed to building a workforce that is diverse and representative of the communities where we live and work,” said Jennifer Williams, Vice President of Production with Hydro. “As a utility, we fully recognize that women are often under-represented in many technical roles and skilled trades. Through initiatives like the Women in Trades Scholarships, our goal is to help close the gap by providing women with the support they need to launch successful careers in the trades.”
Applications and further details are available on WRDC’s website. Deadline for submission is July 10, 2018.
