WRDC’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Recognition Awards were presented virtually to recipients during WRDC’s International Women’s Day celebration event on Wednesday, March 10, 2021. The event focused on the International Women’s Day 2021 campaign theme, #ChooseToChallenge.
Since 2014, WRDC has been formally recognizing women, community, and industry players who inspire and empower girls to consider, choose and succeed in skilled trades and technology in Newfoundland and Labrador.
This year’s EDI Recognition Awards recipients are passionate and committed to making a difference, challenging gender inequality, and helping forge an inclusive world. They are shining examples of determination, integrity, and leading by example.
WRDC’s EDI Recognition Awards are presented in three categories

- Community Excellence, and
- Diversity in Industry
Women in Trades & Technology
This award recognizes women who are demonstrating leadership in skilled trades and technology fields. WRDC is thrilled to recognize Collette Garland for her commitment to promoting gender balance in technology through her volunteer work with WRDC, and for empowering youth and adult students in STEM. WRDC is also thrilled to recognize Sarah Gillam for her success in her field, and for her commitment to inspiring and empowering females in skilled trades.

This award recognizes non-profits and NGOs for emerging and/or best practices in equity, diversity, and inclusion programs and services.
WRDC is very happy to recognize Skills Canada Newfoundland and Labrador for their long history of exceptional program development and delivery that supports gender equity, diversity and inclusion in skilled trades and technology.
Diversity in Industry
This award recognizes employers for their leadership and success in equity, diversity, and inclusion within their organization, industry, or sector. WRDC is very pleased to recognize Hydro for their leadership in the adoption and implementation of emerging practices for diversity, gender equity and inclusion.
